FELLOW TRAVELLERS

Talkestra (dir. Steve Dummer) presented works by members of New Music Brighton and Forum London Composers Group for clarinet, bassoon, cornet, trombone, violin, double bass and percussion - the instrumentation chosen by Igor Stravinsky for his musical drama The Soldier's Tale.

Martin Jones: Dusty Road   (hero of The Soldiers' Tale doggedly marches up the A23). See the performance here
Ric Graebner: Just a Minute   (echoes of Stravinsky)
Jonathan Clark: Strata   (pairings that concentrate and oscillate, gradually accruing collective energy)
Michael Stephenson: Six Minute Miniatures   (new things to say in C major)
Phil Baker: Sinfonietta   (influenced by early Creole jazz at 78rpm)
Ruth Duckworth: Spinnakers In the Wind   (impression of maritime Weymouth)
Tony Matthews: Pucky   (another character study from the lighter side of Matthews with just a hint of darkness)
